Tobacco Kills 7 Million People Every Year, says WHO

According WHO the use of Tobacco has declined since 2000, but still it kills 7 million people every year and costs US$ 1.4 trillion in healthcare and lost productivity. It is the only product that kills half of its consumers.

Tobacco threatens health, economies and development problem and 12% of deaths of all people aged over 30 are due tobacco.

Tobacco related illness including heart and lung diseases, and cancer, leaves many families without main breadwinner, while at the same time increases health costs.

In low-income countries, sometimes more than 10% of household income is spent on tobacco products.

Almost half of children regularly breathe air polluted by tobacco smoke in public places.
