How to Avoid Electrical Accidents? 10 Tips You Must Know

The tragic electrical accidents often make headlines in Kashmir. Scores of linemen have lost their lives while doing their job and those who survived are now living a handicapped life.

It is necessary to prioritize your safety while doing any work. It is also the responsibility of the concerned authority to provide safety equipment to their workers and aware them about the consequences of doing dangerous work

How can you stop such deadly accidents? Here are some tips that every linemen should follow while performing duty:

  1. While working on line, even a small movement can lead to tragic accident. It is better to be patient and aware about surroundings.
  2. Always carry a safety kit with you. Use tools properly and Never use a one you are not familiar with.
  3. Always work in teams. Be sure that you and your fellow crew members are communicating and looking out for each other’s safety.
  4. Wearing of proper safety equipment including helmet, gloves, shoes, goggles and clothing will provide an extra layer of protection.
  5. Look up and look out for power lines before you climb a tree.
  6. Avoid water at all times when working with electricity. Never touch or try repairing any electrical equipment or circuits with wet hands.
  7. Never use damaged equipment.
  8. Always use insulated tools while working.
  9. Never try repairing energized equipment. Always check that it is de-energized first by using a tester. When an electric tester touches a live or hot wire, the bulb inside the tester lights up showing that an electrical current is flowing through the respective wire.
  10. Use a bamboo, wooden or a fiberglass ladder.
