Forest cover in J & K

Forest-means a piece of land covered with trees, plants, grass, bushes, shrubs etc. Our valley has a forest cover of 40.17% (8151 sq kms) , while Ladakh and Jammu have  0,17% (936 sq kms) and 59.64 % (12066 sq kms) of forest cover respectively, running into a total of 24.47 %.

Forests provide us many useful things and materials like fuel, medicinal herbs, and wood for building house boats, household articles, furniture etc.

Forests also provide us gums, rubber, resins etc.

Forests act as lungs of earth planet by absorbing carbon dioxide (CO2) and realizing oxygen(O2) in the atmosphere.
