A short history of Coke Studio Pakistan

In 2007 the concept of Coke Studio show was created by the Coca-Cola Company in Brazil. The concept was later adopted by Vital Signs member Rohail Hyatt and launched a Pakistani version of it in 2008.

On 6 February, 2008 the first season of the Pakistani music television series Coke Studio  was commenced. The season  ended on 18 April, 2008. It was produced by the Coca-Cola Company and Rohail Hyatt.

The show features live studio-recorded music performances by eloquent and experienced artists. It is the longest-running annual television music show in Pakistan.

The music performed in the show includes Classical, Folk, Sufi, Qawwali , Bhangra, Hip Hop, Rock and Pop.

This year’s album of Coke Studio featured Kashmiri language song “Ha Gulo Tohi Ma Sa Wuchwan Yaar Meon”, written by Ghulam Ahmad Mehjoor, one of the famous poets of Kashmir.

The song has been sung by Muzaffarabad-based Kashmiri artist Muhammad Altaf Mir under the band called Qasamir.

Mir originally belongs to Janglat-Mandi area of Anantnag district.
