A Prof. who got Appointed Twice as VC of KU

Prof. Talat Ahmad

Reputed Geologist Prof. Talat Ahmad has again been appointed as Vice Chancellor (VC) of the University of Kashmir (UoK) on 7th August, succeeding Prof. Khurshid Iqbal Anrabi. Earlier, Prof. Talat has served as the VC of UoK from June 2011 to May 2014.

Born on 23rd December 1955 in the Giridih  village of Jharkhand, Prof. Talat completed his Bachelor in Geology from Aligarh Muslim University in 1975, Masters in Geology in 1977, Maters in Philosophy in Ore Petrology from Jawaharlal Nehru University in 1980 and Doctor in Philosophy in Igneous Petrology Geochemistry in 1985.

Besides, Prof. Talat did three Post-Doctoral Fellowships from University of Liecester U.K (1988-1989), University of Cambridge (1997-1998) and Nagota University, Japan (1999-2000).

Also, Prof. Talat has been bestowed with several prestigious awards and medals like National Mineral Award in 1994, Tak Zainagiri Memorial Award in 2012 in the field of promotion of academics, S.M. Naqvi Gold Medal 2013, Indian Geophysical Union– Prince Mukarram Jah Endowment Lecture Award and Gold Medal for the year 2015, Bhartiya Manava Adhikar Samman 2017 and “Most Eminent Vice-Chancellor Award 2017” along with a Certificate of Excellence by the All India Council of Human Rights, Liberties & Social Justice (AICHLS).
