A Brief History of World Emoji Day

Representational Picture

Every day we use emojis while chatting with our friends, relatives, siblings etc through Social Networking Sites. We use emojis, a small digital image or icon, to express our idea or emotions.

Man has been using symbols and drawings to convey their  thoughts or emotions without the need for words. When Social Networking Sites became popular and brought revolution in the world, its creators use this same old technique to simplify communication for users.

Every year new emojis with different connotations are being launched.

Today is the World Emoji Day and it is being celebrated every year since 2014. The reason behind why 17th July was declared as World Emoji Day is that on this day in 2002 Apple introduced their iCalendar app, alongside a full suite of emojis for use. Through the power of influence of Emojipedia founder Jeremy Burgess, the first World Emoji Day was celebrated first time on 17 July, 2014.
