World Teacher’s Day also known as International Teachers Day is observed annually on 0ctober 5.
World Teacher’s Day was established in 1994 to commemorate the signing of the 1966 UNESCO/ILO Recommendation Concerning the Status of Teacher.
To highlight the issues related to teachers and teaching, the day focuses on “appreciating, assessing and improving the educators of the world”.
Every year UNESCO and Education International run a campaign to give the world a better understanding of teachers and the role they play in the development of students and society.
The campaign focuses on different themes every year. This year’s theme is “The right to education means the right to a qualified teacher”. It commemorates the 70th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (1948) and serves as a reminder that the right to education cannot be realized without trained and qualified teachers.
Besides International Teachers Day, scores of countries in the world celebrate Teachers Day individually. India celebrates Teachers Day on September 5 every year.
