Rubella, called Measles in German is a kind of infection caused by Rubella Virus. The word Rubella has been derived from Latin means “little red” and the disease features a red rash.

Rubella is a communicable disease, predominantly transmitted by coughs and mostly those who have Rubella virus do not notice it.

Although the disease is preventable, but if it occurs during the pregnancy, it can cause severe harm to unborn child, including deafness.

Since 1969, vaccination programs have led to a dramatic fall in the number of cases, and it was declared eliminated from the United States in 2004.

However, it is important to continue vaccinating campaigns, because the disease can enter form other places.

Keeping this thing in mind District development commissioners and additional district commissioners launched a campaign on Monday in entire Jammu and Kashmir except for Katua and Doda (because of closure of schools in these areas due to inclement weather) in presence of chief medical officers (CMOs), deputy CMOs, district information officers and block medical officers.

As per the directorate family welfare and immunization, on the first day of campaign 80023 children were successfully vaccinated.

The campaign was commenced by Dr Sumira Mattoo, director family welfare and Immunization at school for specially-abled children in Rambagh Solina.

“The campaign was running successfully in the entire State and trained vaccinators were available across J&K to implement the program. More than 25000 sessions have been planned for the activity,” Dr Mattoo said.
