Researchers at the University of Michigan Created World’s Smallest Computer

World’s smallest computer

A team of researchers at University of Michigan developed world’s smallest computer measuring 0.33 mm on each side, defeating the record of IBM.

When the power is switched off, all the programs and data remain stored in the device’s internal storage. Boot up the device and all the videos, games, documents reappear.

The computer uses photovoltaic, a method of converting light into electricity. It also consists of a processor, system memory, and wireless transmitters and receivers that send and receive data through light.

Currently, the tiny computer serves as a precision temperature sensor and uses electronic pulses to convert temperature into timed intervals.

Previously, same university created a micro-computer under the name ‘Michigan Micro Mote’ that measured 2×2×4 mm.
