The defending champion Rafael Nadal beat Dominic Thiem, 0-6, 6-4, 7-5, 6-7 (4), 7-6 (5), in a thrilling quarter final in an ongoing US OpenTennis Tournament at USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.

The match lasted for 4 hours 49 minutes, with an outstanding performance by Nadal in the first round.

The four-hour-and-49-minute marathon fell short of the longest match in tournament history, a 5-hour-and-26-minute battle between Stefan Edberg and Michael Chang in the 1992 semifinals.

Nadal will play third-seeded Juan Martin Del Potro in the semifinals on Friday.
