Like Facebook and WhatsApp, Instagram users can now easily see when their friends are online.
On 19th July a Popular image and video sharing App announced this new feature. In the Instagram Direct section of the app, users will now see a green dot next to profile pictures of their friends indicating that said friend is online.

Alongside a green dot, Instagram will also display recent activity status including times tamps such as ‘Active 25m ago’ and ‘Active yesterday’.
For Android and iOS users, Instagram gives the option to hide the new online status.
