World Milk Day: 9 surprising benefits of milk

Why 1st June is celebrated as World Milk Day

To celebrate the important contribution of the diary sector to sustainability, economic development, livelihoods and nutrition, Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAQ) in 2001 declared June 1st as World Milk Day.

Like last year, this year The Global Diary Platform has organized global celebration on June 1. Last year within 42 hours, started from June 1st, 588 events in 80 countries were successfully concluded. Milk and all dairy products were celebrated by farmers , staff, families, chefs, nutritionists, doctors, academics and politicians raising their glasses to the benefits of milk in their lives.

Everyday Parents prepare glass of milk for their kids and ask them, “it’s good for health”. Here are the reasons why parents want their kids to drink milk everyday:

1) The presence of protein in the milk serves as a source of energy and builds  muscle tissue.

2) The milk possess potassium that helps to maintain a healthy blood pressure.

3) Presence of calcium builds healthy bones and teeth and maintain bone mass.

4) Niacin metabolizes sugars and fatty acids.

5) The presence of Phosphorus helps strengthen bones and generate energy.

6) Riboflavin converts food into energy.

7 Vitamin D helps maintain bones.

8) Vitamin B12 maintains healthy red blood cells and nerve tissue.

9) Vitamin A maintains immune system and helps maintain normal vision and skin.

Besides Milk have other essential benefits as well. Its contribution towards wellness and healthy body is worth noticing.

The research done by Professor Peter Elwood of Cardiff University, revealed that drinking milk can lessen the chances of dying from illness such as coronary heart disease and stroke by up to 15 to 20 percent.

According to United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) adults should consume three cups of milk or servings of other dairy products per day per day and children should also consume two to three cups of milks per day depending on their age in order to get benefited from all nine essential nutrients present in the milk.
