
Blood makes up about 8% (5 litres =9 pints), of the human body weight. Blood is composed of Red blood cells (RBCs), White blood cells (WBCs), Platelets and plasma.
The volume percentage of all blood cells in the whole blood is about 45% in adults. The rest consists of water, proteins, electrolytes etc.

RBCs transport oxygen to the various parts in the body. WBCs fight against infections and destroy other infected cells. Platelets help body to stop bleeding by plugging broken blood vessels in case of any injury. Plasma has a key role in blood clotting.
